Finding waterfalls nearby Kathmandu is a pretty difficult task actually. Kathmandu itself is a beautiful place, but if you have already been to the major parts of Kathmandu city and you want to explore a little bit of the outskirts, several waterfalls can be visited in a day.

Mohini Jharana
Kulekhani is one of the popular destinations of Kathmandu city residents, and Mohini Jhanara is just one hour’s drive from there. It’s mostly offroad, so you must take proper offroad bikes or a 4X4 vehicle.

Shimba Falls
With seven different waterfalls in the same place, this is one of the best places I have ever been to that I can complete in a day while starting the trip from Kathmandu. A bike trip here would be the best. I would recommend you go on a proper off-road bike, but other bikes can also take you there with some effort.
You will get the experience of a good bike ride, a hike of around 45 minutes, and the majestic view of 7 different waterfalls from a distance before finally reaching the waterfall. Muhanpokhari
A few kilometers up from Budhanilkantha temple, it’s one of the nearest places on my list. This is a water source for the resident of the area, so it’s called “Muhanpokhari”. With crystal clear water with a restaurant attached to it, you can take a sip of coffee with the flowing stream attached to it. You can get there in about an hour from anywhere in Kathmandu. You need to go uphill from Budhanilkantha temple, and all the locals will tell you the direction of this place easily.
We can’t exactly call this waterfall; rather, it’s a small river, but it is worth visiting because of the clean water that you can see, and that too within a very short ride or drive from Kathmandu. Teendhare Jharana
One of the most difficult destinations on my list, but also one of the most rewarding. You will get to see the beautiful roads, landscape, roads in between the forest, and more. The road is good till Dapcha (a nearby popular destination Namobuddha), and then the offroad trip begins for the next 2 hours.
You must be self-sufficient in terms of food and water, as there are few shops in the area after the offroad begins. The waterfall is majestic and has a resemblance to Bahubali too, so many people call it Bahubali Jharana too.
You can swim there, eat your snacks, take beautiful photos, explore the waterfall, and get back to Kathmandu on time on the same day. I would like to say this waterfall is “larger than life”. Know more about the Teendhare Jharana so you could plan your trip more conveniently.
Mailung Waterfall (Bhange Jharna)
Mailung Waterfall, also called Mailung Jharna or Bhange Jharna, is a hidden gem that shows off Nepal’s natural beauty. It’s tucked away in Rasuwa and is great for people who love nature and adventure. You can visit it in just one day, making it a perfect place for a quick weekend getaway to relax and recharge. You can get their with any kind of vehicles be it two-wheelers or four wheelers, but, off-road vehicles are recommended.
The waterfall appears massive, and you could easily get lost in its beauty, spending hours just gazing at it. It has a majestic, awe-inspiring quality, but the potential danger it posed couldn’t be ignored. As you keep on in the journey, you will encounter numerous waterfalls along the way.
