Khumai Danda Trek – Shortest trek in Nepal that offers the best experience

If you are looking for short treks in Nepal, this is the right choice. As someone searching trek in a short time, you will love this trek and the itinerary. I can’t stay in one place but at the same time, I don’t have enough time to spend many days due to my personal and professional work commitments. This trek is the best fit for someone who wants to travel during the weekend because the weekend is what it takes to be in the lap of the Himalayas.

You will get to experience the Rhododendron-covered forest to the snow covered trails if you reach there in good season. This small trek is the best for beginners and will be enjoyed by everyone because of its less difficulty level as well as its short duration but has a lot to offer during those times.

Khumai Dada Trek Route

The best trekking route for this beautiful trip is through the way of Ghachowk. This trekking route is very untouched and unexplored route, which enhances the beauty of this beautiful trek. The route can be pictured as follows:

Kathmandu- Pokhara- Ghachowk- Saripakha – Tubu Camping – Hile Kharka – Goth Chimle – Hotel at base camp – Khumai Dada View Point – Ghachowk – Pokhara

Complete Trekking Itinerary of Khumai Dada Trek

As it takes only 3 days to complete this beautiful trek, we consider this trip as the shortest 3-day trek in Nepal. If you start the trek from Kathmandu, you will be at home on the 3rd day. Let’s go through the trekking itinerary of Khumai Dada trek:

Day 1 of Khumai Danda Trek:

  • Flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara (35 mins)
  • Bike/Jeep ride from Pokhara to Ghachowk to Saripakha (2 hours)
  • Walk to Tubu Camping – 1 hour
  • Walk to Hile Kharka for lunch – 1 hour
  • Walk to Goth Chimle – 1.5 hours
  • Goth Chimle to Hotel base camp – 4.5 hours

Beautiful Rhododendron flower

This is the only day where you need to walk the most and also this is going to be the most hectic day. You will be moving directly to Khumai Danda on the same day and since this is a fairly new trek destination, you will get to experience a very clean environment. There are no noodle wrappers, coke bottles, and more.

You will be walking through the dense Rhododendron forest and that was the major highlight of the trek. The rhododendron (Laligurans) tree had such beautiful flowers that my whole trek was worth it even if I could see just the following Laligurans tree. I could also see Danfe from far away and I could actually feel why Nepal’s national flower was Laligurans and the bird was Danfe.

Day 2 of Khumai Danda Trek:

  • Hotel to Khumai Dada View Point (2-3 hours walk)
  • Back to hotel at base camp (1.5 hours)
  • Hotel/Khumai dada to Ghachowk – 6-7 hours

For Khumai Danda Trek, you should start your travel very early morning before 5 am to properly manage the day. We walked before 5 am and reached the Khumai Danda viewpoint in around 2-3 hours. The hill was covered in snow even though it snowed more than 20 days back and we were lucky to see it.

I wanted to slide on the snow and I did that too and it’s still one of the most thrilling events for me. Spending 1-2 hours there is a good time as you can see Mardi Himal Base camp and Machhapuchre Himal Base camp from there and the mountains look majestic from there. You can listen to some music, watch mountains and play with the snow there. Mountains in the background will make your photos look out of the world.

On the way to Khumai Dada

After spending a few hours there, you need to return to the hotel at base camp and grab some food. You can take some rest and get ready for the walk as the walk below is going to be pretty long. It will take you another 6-7 hours to reach Ghachowk from where you can get the vehicles. You can reach Ghachowk on time from where you can get vehicles going to Pokhara but it is very unlikely to get a vehicle after 4-5 pm.

If you are lucky then you will get the vehicles from Ghachowk to Pokhara. In case you don’t find any vehicle then you will have to stay at Ghachowk or Saripakha as it will be already late when you reach Saripakha or Ghachowk. It’s better to stay at Saripakha if you are not going to Pokhara same day. You will have to walk 30 mins from Saripakha to reach Ghachowk.

Day 3 of Khumai Danda Trek:

  • Ghachowk to Pokhara: 2 hours
  • Pokhara to Kathmandu: 6-7 hours by bus / 35 mins by flight

The third day is going to be pretty usual and won’t have exceptional things to offer. You just have to catch the local jeep to Pokhara and you will have the option to get a bus to Kathmandu or a flight to Kathmandu from Pokhara. Please note that you can easily get the bus and microbus to Kathmandu but you might not always get the flight in the last hour.

Reasons to Consider Trekking to Khumai Dada in 2023

The best part of this trek is the shortest time duration that it takes to reach the destination and the variety of things that it offers in between those walks. You will be walking in the dense rhododendron forest and reach the hill covered with snow.

You will also see the clouds below you which makes you feel like you are in the movies. This is a budget trek and everyone can complete this trek within a short duration. This is a fairly unexplored area so you will not find a lot of trekkers on the way and hotel options are also limited. So, it’s better to pre-book the place and understand the situation before heading toward this beautiful destination.
